Areas of expertise
- Ecosystem ecology and biogeochemistry – Integrate biogeochemical and ecological approaches to quantify how energy, water and nutrients move through ecosystems.
- Microbial ecology – Apply molecular, genomic and metabolomic tools to determine how microbial community structure and function drive decomposition, soil health and ecosystem services.
- Disturbance ecology – Investigate how interacting disturbances (e.g., wildfire, drought, biodiversity loss, land-use change) reshape ecosystem processes and biological function across scales.
- Soil carbon and climate solutions – Investigate soil carbon cycling and management interventions that strengthen ecosystem resilience and contribute to climate mitigation.
- Applied environmental science and restoration – Collaborate with agencies and stakeholder groups to evaluate and implement science-based strategies for watershed restoration.
