Veterans Day Wreath Laying Ceremony November 11th 2022People take part in the 2022 Veterans Day wreath-laying ceremony.

November 11, 2024

MOSCOW, Idaho — The community is invited to a wreath-laying ceremony to honor military members and veterans at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, on the northwest lawn of the University of Idaho Administration Building on the Moscow campus. A sold-out, by-reservation dinner will be held that evening.

The wreath-laying event features bagpipes, buglers and the members of the university’s ROTC programs. U of I President Scott Green will give remarks on the long military-related history of U of I.

The featured speaker is Capt. Scott Brunson, the commander of the Navy ROTC programs at U of I and Washington State University. There will be an open reception with refreshments immediately following the ceremony at the Veterans Assistance Center at the Living Learning Communities 3 on campus.

The traditional Veterans Appreciation Dinner will be held at 6 p.m. at the ICCU Arena. The keynote speaker for this year’s event is Gen. James F. Amos (retired) who served as the 35th commandant of the United States Marine Corps. More information can be found at uidaho.edu/military-veteran.

Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day and began on Nov. 11, 1918, when the Allies and Germany signed the armistice that ended hostilities on the Western Front of World War I.

MEDIA NOTE: Members of the media are invited to shoot video/photos and interview attendees before and after the wreath laying and the dinner. Contact Jason Nierman at jnierman@uidaho.edu.
