MOSCOW, Idaho — The University of Idaho production of “What the Constitution Means to Me” will receive a special benefit performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, at the Hartung Theater, 625 Stadium Drive, Moscow.

The benefit is in preparation for participation in the Region 7 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival held this year in Spokane Feb. 18-23.

This performance will help the cast and crew in many ways as the Hartung Theatre mimics the venue where the show will be presented in Spokane. It also gives the cast and crew a chance to review the material before the Spokane remount. Donations are strongly encouraged and will help support the remount of the play in Spokane.

“It’s an honor to be invited to present our work and represent the region, which includes theatre programs in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California and Wyoming,” said Robert Caisley, chair of the U of I Department of Theatre.

“What the Constitution Means to Me” has received multiple laurels. Most notably, the play was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in drama and the Susan Smith Blackburn prize. It was nominated for the 2019 Tony Award for Best Play. Author Heidi Schreck was presented the Hull-Warriner Award by the Dramatists Guild of America Council for the play.

The U of I production is a humorous, intelligent and deeply personal look at the U.S. Constitution and stars U of I Professor Kelly Quinnett, U of I alumnus Jeff Davis and U of I student Aurora Dickey. It is directed by David Lee-Painter. Admission is by donation, and tickets are available at uitickets.com.

Content warning: “What the Constitution Means to Me” contains mentions of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and discussions of abortion and its stigmatization.
