December 12, 2025

MOSCOW, Idaho — University of Idaho’s Department of Theatre Arts will present the Short Play Festival, a student-created event directed, designed, acted and produced by students.

The festival features 15 short plays performed over three nights, at 7 p.m. nightly Tuesday through Thursday, Dec. 16-18, at the Forge Theater, 404 Sweet Ave., Moscow. The run time is approximately 90 minutes per night.

Craig A. Miller, head of directing and associate professor of acting and directing, said the Short Play Festival is one of the department’s most meaningful academic productions.

“The festival offers a remarkable platform for our students to demonstrate the breadth of their artistic and technical abilities after a semester of intensive study in directing, design, technology, management and performance,” Miller said. “As the only production in our annual season that is entirely student-produced, it stands as a testament to their commitment, creativity and collaborative spirit.”

This year’s performances include an engaging mix of 10-minute and one-act plays, including well-known works by playwrights such as Anton Chekhov and student-written pieces.

“The festival exemplifies the very best of our students’ collaborative artistry,” Miller said. “It is truly not to be missed.”

Tickets are free for U of I students and $5 for general admission. They can be purchased at uitickets.com or at the door.
