Idaho Repertory Theatre Drama Camp for Kids presents ‘Robin Hood’

MOSCOW, Idaho — University of Idaho’s Idaho Repertory Theatre Drama Camp for Kids presents the classic story of “Robin Hood” in a new adaptation by U of I theatre arts graduate student Millie R. Schacher.

Performances are at 2 and 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, and 2 and 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2. All shows are at the Hartung Theater, 625 Stadium Drive, Moscow.

“Robin Hood is so much more than a summer camp production. It’s an opportunity for young artists to be part of a world premiere and help create a new piece of theatre from the ground up,” said Christina Brandt, camp director. “Throughout the process, our campers have explored every aspect of theatre-making, from acting to scenic painting, costume creation and prop building.”

In the play, Robin’s rule-breaking involves the alleged kidnapping of the Sheriff of Nottingham’s son, Maverick, and the Sheriff vows to impose a heavy tax on all of Nottingham until Maverick is returned. When Robin doesn’t concede, the Sheriff and his guards enter the forest, raring for a fight, but Robin and her merrymakers give them something very different in return.

“Producing a play is truly a tour de force, and these kids have embraced every challenge with incredible creativity, dedication and heart,” said Cory Williamson, assistant camp director. “We couldn’t be prouder of what they’ve accomplished, and we’re excited to share their hard work with our community.”
