Nez Perce Drive closure begins April 13 on University of Idaho campus
Phased construction will reshape traffic flow, improve pedestrian safety and limit access through early fall
April 6, 2026
MOSCOW, Idaho — University of Idaho will close Nez Perce Drive to through traffic beginning Monday, April 13, as part of a State of Idaho Permanent Building Fund-supported alteration and repair project to improve pedestrian safety and upgrade utilities.
The project will repair roadway surfaces, widen sidewalks, add raised crosswalks and reconfigure on-street parking to help slow vehicle traffic.
Construction will occur in phases and is expected to continue into the fall. While some segments of Nez Perce Drive may temporarily open for delivery traffic, the roadway should be considered closed through September.
Initial closure details
Beginning April 13:
- Nez Perce Drive will be fully closed to through traffic from the University House driveway entrance east to the Walenta Path trail and Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, opposite the I Tank.
- From Alpha Gamma Rho to Blake Avenue, the north side of the roadway will be closed, and all on-street parking will be removed. Two-way, local vehicular access will remain available in this segment; however, drivers should anticipate limited circulation. Parking lots serving the fraternity and sorority houses will remain open and accessible throughout construction.
Beginning May 18:
- Nez Perce Drive will be fully closed for all through traffic from the University House driveway entrance east to Blake Avenue.
Detours and traffic impacts
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and follow posted detours, which will direct traffic to alternate routes within campus or to U.S. Route 95 and Idaho State Highway 8.
Campus visitors, students and employees should expect delays and allow extra travel time when navigating the area.
