MOSCOW, Idaho — University of Idaho, in collaboration with the city of Moscow Arts Commission, invites the public to attend the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival (LHJF) Commemorative Art Unveiling reception at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the Third Street Gallery inside Moscow City Hall, 206 E. Third St., Moscow.

The reception will feature performances by the U of I Chamber Jazz Choir and World Beat Ensemble, catering by Goose House Bakery and original poster art by local artist Julene Ewert. The 2025 lineup of concert artists will also be announced at the reception.

“The commemorative poster sets the festival’s vibrant visual tone, and we are thrilled to feature Julene’s exceptional artwork for LHJF 2025,” said Navin Chettri, Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival manager.

Ewert, a U of I alumna, included aspects of home in her poster design.

“Inspiration came from the hills of the Palouse and the beautiful spring wildflowers that pop up in April, which is when the jazz festival happens,” she said.

Ewert said viewers can expect to notice new, hidden parts of the poster the more they look at it.

The idea for the energetic poster jumped out at Ewert through an archival picture of Hampton.

“I loved the photo of Lionel jumping on a drum kit,” she said. “That picture set the energy and tone for this design — it just flew out of me.”
