BOISE, Idaho — The Idaho Technology Council (ITC) recognized University of Idaho President Scott Green with the Mt. Borah Visionary Leader Award at the Hall of Fame Idaho Tech and Idavation Awards on Oct. 16.
Green’s selection for the award by the ITC Board of Trustees is a nod to U of I’s recent designation as a Carnegie R1 research university, along with record research expenditures and leadership in cybersecurity, agriculture, rangeland health and biomedical sciences.
“I’m honored and humbled to accept this award, which I view as a tribute to the innovation driven by our amazing faculty, staff and students at the University of Idaho,” Green said. “We’ve set ambitious goals as an institution and our team at the U of I continues to rise to the occasion and surpass one after another.”
The Mt. Borah Visionary Leader Award is named after Idaho’s tallest peak and recognizes “a leader who has expanded the horizons of Idaho’s technology and entrepreneurial community,” according to the ITC.
Also at the event, U of I Distinguished Professor Carolyn Bohach won the inaugural Star Garnet Women Leading Tech Award. Bohach leads the Idaho INBRE program, a biomedical research program funded by the National Institutes of Health that offers research opportunities to students from all Idaho colleges and universities.
Two other U of I alumni were also honored by the ITC. Brandi Milliron ’97 received the Sawtooth STEM Educator Award for her outstanding work at West Minico Middle School. Nick Stoppello ’13, co-founder of Flashpoint Building Systems, was a finalist for the Peregrine Innovative Technology Award.
The Idaho Technology Council is a membership organization committed to increasing awareness of a thriving technology ecosystem statewide.
