MOSCOW, Idaho — The University of Idaho Department of Theatre Arts will present the second annual aerial arts summer camp showcase. There will be two performances in the Hartung Theater, 625 Stadium Drive, Moscow:

  • 7 p.m. Friday, June 26
  • 2 p.m. Saturday, June 27

The showcase will feature performances by campers ages 7 to 18, using the skills they learned at camp.

Theatre Arts faculty members and aerialists from the Gem State Flyers performance troupe teach campers basic techniques on aerial silks, sling and hoop (lyra) while helping build confidence, strength and creativity in the students.

“Aerial arts have been such a wonderful force for strength and well-being in my life,” said Sarah Fogarty-Morrison, associate professor of theatre and aerial arts camp director. “I discovered aerial arts in my mid-20s and found an incredibly supportive and loving community — I wish I had access to classes when I was a child. I am so proud that we are building the infrastructure to offer more experiences for youth and adults here at University of Idaho.”

Friday’s showcase will feature teens from the two-week camp performing individual routines on two apparatuses of their choice. Saturday’s showcase will feature campers ages 7 to 12 performing group routines on each apparatus (silks, slings and hoops).

“Circus and aerial arts are about inspiring awe, wonder and a belief in our capacity to do tough and sometimes scary things,” Fogarty-Morrison said. “I encourage folks to come out to witness what these campers can do.”

Tickets are $16 for general admission and free for children 12 and under. They are available at uitickets.com.
