e-SyMS Classroom
Opened for use in Fall 2021, the Electronic Synchronous Multi-Site (e-SyMS) Classroom represents an innovative learning space design to support distance collaboration. The e-SyMS Classroom, located in Mem Gym B04, serves U of I faculty, students, researchers, and partners, facilitating meetings and learning experiences for varying configurations of small groups and individuals. Designed for synchronous, real-time interactions such as video conferencing, document creation, and editing, e-SyMS features dual cameras. The integrated camera system pans and zooms dynamically, focusing on the active speakers and creating an intimate engagement experience for those joining from afar. Additionally, with three displays strategically arranged and modular furniture provided by CEHHS partner MeTEOR Education, in-room attendees never have to worry about seeing the screen.
The e-SyMS Classroom is a unique facility targeting positive outcomes in research, teaching, and collaboration using technology. Research is supported and deepened when partners meet virtually in the space, allowing for more significant interaction and richer analysis. The command center design of the room also supports remote monitoring for observing locations at a distance or virtually. The ability to bring in remote speakers and experiences benefits all learners, enhancing the learning experience. Additionally, digital sharing for collaboration includes an integrated document camera, and small group gathering spaces encourage creative activities.
This innovative learning space features:
- PC for in-room use and in-Zoom screen sharing
- Three connected, dynamic displays, two at the front of the classroom and one at the back
