Eric McMillan Memorial Diversity Scholarship
On September 9, 2004, Eric McMillan, a U of I freshman in English composition, turned in his first assignment, a reflective essay. "Man in the Mirror". Ten days after Eric wrote "Man in the Mirror" he was dead, murdered. His essay and his example have inspired a lasting tribute to him: the Eric McMillan Memorial Diversity Scholarship. The Eric McMillan Scholarship Fund is supported by the Black/ African American Cultural Center (BAACC). The purpose of this fund is to attract, nurture, develop and promote a diverse academia and support students who demonstrate financial need. The Eric McMillan Scholarship is offered as a grant-in-aid to Black, African and African American students.
Eligibility and Nominations
Scholarships are awarded annually to up to two students. The college, university or community service organization selects the scholar using criteria that focuses on grade point average, residence, leadership skills and financial need.
Applicants Must:
- Be a full-time student enrolled at University of Idaho
- Have a 2.0 minimum GPA
- Currently have and maintain good academic standing
- Be a member of a race/ethnic category typically considered "people of color"
