University of Idaho's physical education program prepares you to become a certified K-12 physical education teacher who can create engaging learning experiences, promote school wellness and help students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead active, healthy lives.
Throughout the program, you'll combine evidence-based teaching practices with hands-on learning to prepare for a rewarding career in physical education. You'll learn how to teach games, sports, fitness and movement activities that engage learners of all abilities while developing expertise in curriculum design, assessment, classroom management and inclusive instructional practices. The program also introduces Whole-of-School Physical Activity strategies, preparing you to lead initiatives that encourage movement before, during and after the school day for students, staff and families.
Before graduation, you'll gain extensive classroom experience through clinical placements in elementary, middle and high schools, followed by a full-time student teaching internship. Experiential learning is integrated throughout the program, giving you opportunities to apply what you learn in authentic school settings while building confidence as an educator.

Curriculum
The B.S. in exercise, sport and health sciences, physical education teacher certification emphasis is a 120-credit program combining coursework and applied learning experiences. Students build technical expertise while gaining hands-on experience in the field. You also have the option to add a health minor, expanding your preparation to teach health education.

Hands-on learning opportunities
You can learn, play and work on a residential campus. We offer unique practicums at the elementary, middle and high school levels before you start your 120-hour internship/student teaching. Students also work specifically with individuals with disabilities.
You will develop your leadership and collaborative skills and enhance physical activity in schools and in the community. Working with school administrators, you’ll deliver workshops for classroom teachers and provide organized activity before school and during recess. You will also collaborate with City of Moscow officials to help deliver Safe Routes to School.
Internships
All students must complete a student teaching internship before completing your degree.
