Bachelor of Arts
Read, write, and converse … in French!
Whether you want to work in government, business, education, health care or journalism, a second language is a valuable skill. In this program you will learn to speak, read and write in French, with courses in conversation, grammar, composition, culture, literature and cinema. Most students combine a French degree with another interest such as international studies or history.
Some additional benefits of the Bachelor of Arts, French major include:
- Live and study for a semester or a year in France or a French-speaking part of Europe, Africa or Canada.
- Personal mentorship in small classroom settings.
- Opportunity to gain teaching and mentoring experience as departmental tutor.

Students graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in French will complete 120 required credits toward the degree in addition to U of I core requirements.

Hands-on learning:

Application information
Undergraduate applications open each September and admissions are processed on a rolling basis. Qualified students are admitted and considered for scholarships and financial aid as applications are received.
