Manage the fish of the future
From protecting endangered fish species to rebuilding fishery stock and restoring fish habitats, professionals in this field work to support healthy fish resources for the benefit of the economy, food supply, environment, recreation and more.
This nationally recognized Bachelor of Science program gives you hands-on experience in the field, in on-campus fish labs, and aquaculture facilities. You’ll study with faculty at the forefront of fish health research, like the professor whose fisheries lab is dedicated to protecting native ancient fish species that have been long overlooked. Choose from internship opportunities with fish and wildlife agencies where you can dive deeper into wild fisheries in natural lake and river ecosystems.
With a fisheries science and management emphasis, you’ll be prepared to address environmental and political issues affecting our world’s fish populations, including governmental mandates, pollution, invasive species, water quality, sport fisheries and natural resource management.

Internships
Internships specifically directed at UI students are available to study wild river systems at Taylor Wilderness Research Station: fish genetics and feeding in the Aquaculture Research Institute (ARI) at the Hagerman Fish Culture Experiment Station and on the Moscow campus; and various aspects of fisheries with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

Undergraduate applications open each September and admissions are processed on a rolling basis. Qualified students are admitted and considered for scholarships and financial aid as applications are received.
