Today's students need more than technical knowledge — they need opportunities to design, build, test and solve real-world problems. As a future engineering and technology educator, you'll prepare to inspire innovation through hands-on learning while helping middle and high school students develop the engineering, technology and career-ready skills needed for success in today's workforce.
This secondary teacher preparation program combines engineering, technology and career and technical education (CTE) with evidence-based teaching practices. You'll study engineering design, computer-aided design (CAD), robotics, manufacturing, automation, construction and other emerging technologies while learning how to create engaging learning experiences for diverse learners. Throughout the program, you'll learn how to connect classroom concepts to real-world applications.
Your learning extends beyond campus through early field experiences, classroom observations and a semester of student teaching in secondary schools. These hands-on experiences allow you to develop confidence as an educator while gaining practical experience managing technology-rich classrooms, leading lab activities and applying best practices in CTE. You’ll collaborate with faculty members committed to helping you grow as both an educator and a leader.
When you graduate, you’ll be prepared to teach engineering, technology, manufacturing and related career and technical education courses in middle schools, high schools and career technical centers. You'll also be eligible for Idaho secondary teacher certification with endorsements in engineering and technology education, preparing you for teaching careers that are in demand throughout Idaho and across the country.

Curriculum
The B.S.Ed. in career and technical education, engineering and technology education option is a 120-credit program combining coursework and applied learning experiences. Students build technical expertise while gaining hands-on experience in the field.

Hands-on learning
To earn a teaching degree, you will spend an entire semester in an internship position student teaching at a high school. You will get to know the teaching profession well while you collaborate with local schools and work with some outstanding, high-achieving high school students.

Idaho LAUNCH
This degree is approved for Idaho LAUNCH, a grant that supports Idaho students pursuing high-demand careers. Students enrolling under the 2026–27 Academic Catalog may be eligible for up to $4,000 per year / $8,000 total in scholarship funding through the Idaho LAUNCH program.

Undergraduate applications open each September, and admissions are processed on a rolling basis. Qualified students are admitted and considered for scholarships and financial aid as applications are received.
