Description of Research Project
As part of an AERIS sponsored project the Center for Sustainable Mobility at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) developed a framework for enhancing vehicle fuel efficiency in the vicinity of traffic signalized intersections. The proposed effort extends this research as follows:
- It extends the approach to consider different vehicle types using an adaptive agent-based approach.
- The approach is extended to implement a dynamic programming approach to vary the vehicle throttle input.
- The approach is integrated within a microscopic traffic simulation software to evaluate the intersection-wide impacts of such a system.
