University of Idaho requires all degree seeking undergraduate students enrolled in twelve (12) or more credits, graduate/Law students enrolled in nine (9) or more credits and all international students to provide proof of health insurance. Students who have personal health insurance must complete a Health Insurance Information Form online through VandalWeb prior to the first day of the semester.

The charge for health insurance is a separate line item on your bill. The charge will be credited to your student account when your health insurance information has been submitted. Read more information regarding the health insurance requirement and processes.

The cost of Student Health Insurance for the 2023-24 academic year is $1,080 per semester. The cost for summer 2024 is $540 (new students only).

Qualified Late Enrollee Provision: Students who lose employer-sponsored health insurance or Medicaid after the Open Enrollment deadline may enroll in SHIP within 30 days of the date of loss of their previous coverage. Documentation of the involuntary loss of coverage must be provided. The effective date of SHIP coverage will be the date following the day you lost coverage. The insurance premium charge will be pro-rated from the effective date through the end of the coverage term. Charges for medical insurance are placed on your student account. Please contact the Student Health Insurance office for additional information and rates.
