Lionel Hampton School of Music Day
Wednesday - Feb. 23, 2022
Lionel Hampton was always very proud of his school of music and its broad approach to performance and education. To showcase the wide range of talent within the the school, a concert featuring all genres of LHSOM student ensembles including jazz bands, jazz choirs, chamber ensembles, wind ensemble, concert choir and orchestra was historically held to kick off the start of Jazz Festival. The event, affectionately becoming known as Hamp's Gala, would always have front row seats reserved for Lionel Hampton and the guest artists he invited to attend. Today, we continue to honor the tradition of Hamp’s Gala the evening before the Jazz Festival, always placing flowers in a front row seat in memory of Hamp and all he did to support his school of music. To further Lionel Hampton's legacy for music education, we have expanded into the daytime, offering workshops given by LHSOM faculty to those participants who travel to Moscow the day before the Jazz Festival begins.
Schools and individuals will receive LHSOM Day participation and sign up details after completing their Jazz Festival registration.
