Program Scholarships

Council on International Study Programs Scholarships
Application deadlines: Varies (please review website)

CIEE offers a variety of merit and need-based scholarships that can be applied towards or defray program fees and travel costs. Visit the CIEE website for more details and application materials.

KCP International Scholarship

Offered by KCP International Japanese Language School, these merit-based scholarships are awarded to three eligible students each term who attend KCP, on a first come, first served basis. ISA Diversity Scholarships 
Application deadlines:

Winter/Spring: October 30
Summer: February 28
Fall/Academic Year: April 30

For study on an ISA program. Must be enrolled in second or third year of undergraduate education at time of ISA program and have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Number of awards: 2 x $1,000 for Summer Study, 2 x $2,000 for Fall Study, 2 x $2,000 for Winter/Spring Study. For more information visit ISA's website.


Dr. Carlos E. Castañeda Memorial Scholarship & Correspondent Internship Opportunity

Application deadlines: 

Winter/Spring: October 30
Fall/Academic Year--April 30

Winners of this scholarship will have the opportunity to participate in the Correspondent Internship, which offers the recipient the chance to take photos, and add content to the ISA Student Blog as a Castañeda Correspondent. Additionally, students may become part of the offices abroad, based on the need of their particular ISA office. Full details of the internship opportunity will be provided to scholarship recipients. Eligibility: Students must have at least a 3.25 GPA, completed one year of college level foreign language or the equivalent, and be on financial aid. Award amounts are $2000 semester/trimester programs (12 awards for fall and 12 awards for winter/spring). $2500 for Year programs (4 awards).

Michaela Farnum Memorial Scholarship (Summer only)
Application deadline: February 28

These scholarships are offered for summer programs only. The distribution of the scholarship is 5 summer awards for $1,000 each and is available for affiliates and non-affiliates. Students must be sophomore/junior at time of study abroad, have at least a 3.25 GPA, completed one year of college level foreign language or the equivalent, and be on financial aid.

Sibling and Repeat Student Grants

ISA and ELAP offers grants to students who have previously participated in an ISA or ELAP program, regardless of the length of time (if any) that passes between the two programs. Please note that students participating in an ISA Customized Program are not eligible for this scholarship. Grants range from $100-$350.

Live Like Ally Memorial Scholarship

Application Deadlines:
Fall/Year: April 30
Winter/Spring: October 30

The "Live Like Ally" Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the memory of Allison Willen, a Junior at Eckerd College majoring in Human Development. Ally's life ended tragically during a hiking trip in the beautiful Mt Aspiring National Park while a participant on a ISA semester study abroad program at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand.

Students who believe they Live Like Ally and also share similar interests such as a passion for volunteering, a love for nature and hiking, and zest for life are encouraged to apply. Eligibility: Be accepted to an ISA semester or year study or internship program in New Zealand, have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA, be enrolled in 2nd or 3rd year of undergraduate education at a U.S. university/college at time of ISA program participation. Award Amounts: One $1000 Scholarship for Fall and one $1,000 for Spring Programs. For more information visit ISA's website.


Massey University Scholarship
Deadline: May 1 (Fall semester) November 1 (Spring semester)

Scholarships of NZD $1,000 provided by Massey University are available to qualified participants in the ISEP Direct program. The award criterion includes academic background, desire to study abroad, and financial need. Visit the ISEP Website for more information.


STA Travel Scholarship
Drawing entry deadlines: Aug 15/Dec 15

Two $500 scholarships from STA Travel are available each academic year to U.S.-based ISEP participants for roundtrip travel from the U.S. to their program destination. Once roundtrip travel is booked, confirmed and paid in full, the ISEP participants name will be entered in a drawing for the $500 scholarship. Visit the ISEP website for more information.

USAC/U of I Scholarships
Application deadline: April 1 (fall/summer); Oct 15 (spring)

University of Idaho students accepted into USAC Specialty programs and Ghana. Students showing a good GPA and financial need will be given preference. Average awards: number varies, $500 for semester; $250 for summer. There is no application; if you have submitted a complete study abroad application to the IPO office by the application deadline you will be automatically considered.


U of I/USAC Basque Cultural Endowment
Application deadline: April 1 (fall/summer); Oct. 15 (spring)

University of Idaho students accepted into USAC programs to Bilbao, San Sebastian, or Pau. Students showing a good GPA and financial need will be given preference. Average awards: 7 for $500. There is no application; if you have submitted a complete study abroad application to the IPO office by the application deadline you will be automatically considered.


Dr. Meira Fields USAC Scholarship (STEM students)

In honor of the late Dr. Meira Fields, this scholarship is intended to help Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematic (STEM) students develop their own vision of the greater world. Eligible recipients will be participating on a USAC study abroad program and have a declared STEM major or minor. Awards will range from $500 for a summer term to $2500 for semester or academic year participants.


USAC Legacy Scholarship

Available to the families—children, siblings, and spouses—of USAC alumni to attend a USAC Specialty Program. Awards will be given in the amount of $100 for winter session, $300 for summer session, and $500 for semester. Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis, with the final deadline being 30 days prior to departure. Details will be posted to students’ Gateway accounts. Félix Menchacatorre Memorial Scholarship

Memorial scholarship available to students attending a semester program in San Sebastián or Bilbao. Award amount $500. A scholarship application will be posted to your USAC Student Gateway account if you are eligible.


Florianópolis Scholarship (Brazil)

Students attending the Florianópolis program during the summer 2016, fall 2016 or spring 2017 terms are eligible for this scholarship. Multiple awards will be given in the amount of $500.


San Ramón Scholarship (Costa Rica)

Students attending the San Ramón program during the summer 2016, fall 2016 or spring 2017 terms are eligible for this scholarship. Multiple awards will be given in the amount of $500.


Lüneburg Work-Study Grant

Lüneburg program semester and yearlong students may apply for a work-study grant, which is provided by Leuphana University Lüneburg. The grant provides approximately 250 EUR/month for assisting the Lüneburg Resident Director eight hours each week. This grant is available to any USAC student who has above average grades and an adequate knowledge of the German language (Track III or above). Grant applications may be acquired from the USAC office in Lüneburg. To apply, you must submit transcripts, a resume including extracurricular activities, and a letter of intent.


Massey University Scholarship (New Zealand) 
Scholarship Application Deadlines: November 1, 2011 for February 2012; May 1, 2012 for July 2012

Available to students accepted to study at Massey University. Applicants to any of the three campus locations in New Zealand – Palmerston North, Auckland, or Wellington – are eligible. To be considered, complete USAC application and access USAC Student Gateway account for scholarship application instructions. There are two $400 scholarships available.


Dr. Marianne Cooley Study Abroad Scholarship (China)

Students attending the Chengdu or Shanghai, China programs are eligible to apply for this scholarship which will be awarded each semester.


Kody Bressman Memorial Scholarship (San Sebastian)

Honoring Kody Bressman, a University of Nevada, Las Vegas alum who studied abroad in San Sebastian, Spain with USAC is offering multiple scholarships for students in San Sebastian. Awards range from $500-$2,500 will be awarded each semester. Minimum GPA of 2.75 required.

Multiple scholarships available, including Need-Based Grants from $1,000 to $10,000, Merit Grants from $1,000 to $5,000, Seamans-Kruse Scholarship (three $2,500 grants per semester), Diversity Abroad Scholarships, Alumni Scholarships from $500 to $2,000, and Work-Study Grants ($4,000 for spring and fall voyages, and $3,000 for summer voyages).
