OIT Strategic Plan

Executive Summary

The OIT Strategic Plan is a framework for prioritized support of the U of I Strategic Plan. It runs in a parallel timeframe to that of the U of I Strategic Plan — 2016 through 2025 — and is updated annually to reflect the speed of technology change in higher education while maintaining focus on long-term institutional goals. While it does not reflect the breadth and depth of the work that OIT does from an operational or tactical perspective, the OIT Strategic Plan lists initiatives that help move OIT and U of I forward, prepares the OIT organization and supported technology to accommodate UI’s growth and reflects the importance of the dedicated OIT staff to U of I’s continued success.

This site contains overview information on our plan, recaps of efforts from previous years and a description of our current initiatives. We welcome input on our planning processes and the initiatives we undertake, and we encourage you to contact the OIT Leadership Team if you would like more information concerning the status of the plan initiatives.

FY 24 — Continue Improving the User Experience

U of I is scheduled to begin development of a new institutional strategic plan in 2024. Rather than have OIT develop an updated independent strategic plan for FY 2024 (7/1/23 – 6/30/24), OIT will continue with existing initiatives from the FY 2023 Strategic Plan and actively participate in the university strategic planning process to align with the goals and needs of the institution.

The FY 2023 plan had a distinct focus which will continue to serve the university well through FY 2024: facilitate a university-wide move to digital transformation and institutional alignment to improve the user experience. The initiatives in the plan, as well as other efforts, can help:

  • Institutional alignment to improve student outcomes and constituent experiences.
  • Improve efficiency in processes across the institution.
  • Meet expectations for inclusive technology usage for statewide collaboration.
  • Address increasing compliance requirements and evolving security risks.

FY23 — Digital Transformation and Institutional Alignment

The Office Information Technology (OIT) strategic plan for FY23 builds off the successes of previous plans, including the formation of OIT from technology professionals from Information Technology Services (ITS) and units across the university to build a collaborative, statewide university-focused organization with common goals, standards, tools and priorities.

Our plan for 2023 focuses on how our work enhances the work of the university and all our constituencies therein. The focus of this year is Digital Transformation and Institutional Alignment to Improve the User Experience. This will be accomplished through delivery of initiatives detailed in the plan. With this year’s focus we will further our goals to:

  • Foster institutional alignment to improve student outcomes and constituent experiences.
  • Improve efficiency in processes across the institution and across higher education in Idaho.
  • Raise expectations for inclusive technology usage for statewide collaboration.
  • Address evolving security risks and increasing compliance requirements.

The improvements realized at the completion of these initiatives will allow OIT to position itself and its customers to efficiently support the advancement of the university’s mission.
