U of I Custodial Services
Custodial Services provides and maintains a comfortable, attractive and secure environment inside academic buildings on campus, including student dorms and apartments, and multi-use locations such as the ICCU Arena and ASUI Kibbie Dome. We manage routine, emergency, and special cleaning requests. We handle unlocking and locking of buildings and classrooms, replacements of light bulbs/tubes, pest control, event cleaning, weekend custodial work and facilitate the removal of snow and ice in front of building entrances. Our focus is on core duties relating to life safety and hazard mitigation, compliance with current University of Idaho policies and regulations, and primary cleaning tasks. We provide quick response to requests and emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. Customer service is important to us, and we work closely with other UI departments and guests of the University to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment. We strive to use our limited resources to the fullest advantage, and are committed to implementing practices that are environmentally friendly and promote sustainability (see our Green Cleaning policy). Custodial Services is a part of the Facilities team and works closely with Facilities Operations to accomplish our common mission.
Recycling Services, currently under development, provides single stream recycling to common areas of campus building and Housing.
Services

Building Access — responsible for unlocking and locking the exterior doors, classrooms and event spaces.

Cleaning Frequencies — clean daily restrooms, classrooms and laboratories along with all common areas. Reception office areas are cleaned twice a week and individual offices once a week.

Floor care — refinish most hard floors once a year in common areas and classrooms. Laboratories and offices are done on request. Wood gym floors are done every three years.

Snow and ice removal — responsible for snow and ice removal at building entries and stairs.

Emergency Cleaning — call 208-885-6246 for emergency clean ups after floods, sickness, spills, etc. in academic building between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week. After hours and weekends, call Security 208-885-7054 or 208-874-7550.

Recycling — responsible for interior common areas of all campus buildings and Student Housing (program currently under development).

Weekend Services — Provide access to academic buildings and classrooms on weekends at no charge, but if custodial services are required, there may be a charge. Reservations for classrooms need to be approved by the Registrar’s Office.

Floor care — More frequent floor care requests than once a year for hard floors or carpet cleaning will require a budget number so services can be charged.

Upholstery and draping cleaning — Cleaning will require a budget number so services can be charged.

Window Washing — An outside contractor needs to be hired by individual departments for exterior window washing on academic buildings as Custodial Services do not provide this service.

Event cleaning/recycling — Cleaning and recycling services on weekends, holidays, and large events will require a budget number so services can be charged.
