Donald E. Crabtree Scholarship

The last will and testament of Mr. Don E. Crabtree bequeathed to "the University of Idaho, Department of Anthropology, all correspondence, pictures and photos, books and periodicals, reprints and material of a biographical nature, including all artifactual materials, including slides, collections foreign and domestic, all replicas and an unassigned collection located at the Museum of Natural History, Department of Anthropology, Idaho State University."

The purpose of this donation was to establish a scholarship fund and provide for the long-term curation of the collection. The scholarship is designed to assist graduate students in their study and research of stone artifacts, the diverse technologies required and the human behavioral element in their creation.

It was Crabtree's intent that the funds be used for a masters or doctoral student in anthropology, geology, physiology or chemistry. A board of three members familiar with lithic technology will select the recipient.

Students from both the University of Idaho and Washington State University have the opportunity to apply, but U of I still may be given preference.

Two scholarships of $1000 will be awarded annually. This amount will be divided into portions for two semesters. Students can receive the scholarship for a maximum of two years. Applications are accepted for review at the end of August every year.
