Fulbright UK Summer Institutes

The Fulbright UK Summer Institutes are offered by the US-UK Fulbright Commission for US citizens to attend one of ten special summer programs in the UK. These summer programs provide the opportunity for US undergraduates (aged over 18), with at least two years of undergraduate study left to complete, to come to the UK on a three, four, five, or six week academic and cultural summer program. Participants in these programs will get the opportunity to experience an exciting academic program at a highly regarded UK University, explore the culture, heritage and history of the UK, and develop their academic ability by improving presentation, research and communication skills. The majority of the participant costs will be covered. This includes round-trip airfare from the US to the UK, tuition and fees at the host university, accommodation, meals and a small daily allowance.

  • Applicants must be US citizens.
  • Applicants must be first or second year undergraduates (over 18 years of age) with two years of undergraduate study left to complete after participation in the summer program.
  • Applicants must have a valid passport that will still be in date 6 months after returning from the program.
  • Preference is given to candidates who have had little or no study or travel experience in the UK or elsewhere outside the US.
  • Applicants must have a high level of academic achievement with a minimum GPA of 3.5.

Applications are submitted online and include:

  • Summer Institute application form
  • Self-assessment: Assessing Yourself by Threes
  • Personal Statement
  • Essay Question
  • Equal opportunities monitoring form
  • Transcript(s)
  • Two letters of reference
