Honors Community

A diverse community is key to a strong honors program, and we offer students, alumni and families a variety of opportunities to engage. Students become part of our honors community through our residential living option and participation in a number of honors student clubs, such as the Honors Book Club, the Honors Leadership Council and by serving as an Honors Student Ambassadors.

Our student magazine, The Looking Glass, is published entirely by our students and includes creative, non-fiction and/or research contributions by honors students.

Alumni and families are invited to attend our annual graduation celebration the day before spring Commencement. Start building community through academics in and out of the classroom.

The honors student ambassadors are a diverse group of current honors students representing various colleges on campus and a wide range of experiences and interests within the University of Idaho.

Honors Ambassadors assist the program by answering questions from prospective honors students and their families at events such as UIdaho Bound, Sneak Peek and individual campus visits.

Applying to be an Honors Ambassador is a great way to develop leadership skills, practice effective communication and recruit the next generations of University Honors Program students. In order to apply, you must have completed one semester in the University Honors Program and be in good standing.

For more information about the program and application process, please contact our office at honors@uidaho.edu.

Meet our current Honors Student Ambassadors.

The Looking Glass is a creative and academic publication produced by University Honors Program students under the guidance of a faculty member. The publication consists entirely of student work and is managed and produced by students as part of our program’s service-learning opportunities. The Looking Glass entries include fiction, non-fiction and research entries, such as poetry, short stories, essays, research papers as well as photography and art.

For more information about becoming part of The Looking Glass editorial student group and/or how to enroll in the honors course producing this publication, please contact our office at honors@uidaho.edu. You can also download the submission guidelines.

The honors book club consists of a group of students that enjoy reading and discussing books together. The honors book club leader organizes bi-weekly meetings on campus, and everyone can join.

For more information on how to get engaged with students in the honors book club, please contact our office at honors@uidaho.edu.

The Honors Leadership Council (HLC) is an ASUI recognized student organization that creates social, cultural, educational and service activities for all students in the University Honors Program and the University of Idaho. HLC members meet on a regular basis to plan honors activities. All students in the program are welcome to attend HLC meetings. HLC members have to be in good standing in the program.

For more information about the Honors Leadership Council, please contact the student groups’ faculty advisor Dr. Sandra Reineke at honors@uidaho.edu.
