First-Year Applicants

The first-year application is for students who will be entering the University of Idaho immediately following graduation from an accredited high school or those who have been home-schooled. Students who have completed advanced placement or dual credits should also apply as a first-year applicant. Applicants first need to be admitted to the University of Idaho before applying to the University Honors Program.

*First-year applicants for spring 2021 and fall 2021*

If you do not have an SAT or ACT test score due to the coronavirus pandemic, you are highly encouraged to apply to the program.

Please submit the following materials to honors@uidaho.edu:

  1. Unweighted cumulative high school GPA from their 5th high school semester.
  2. One writing sample from one of their high school classes as a scanned email attachment.

After initial review of these application materials, applicants will receive an email from the program containing the writing prompts that all first-year applicants to the program, who have passed the initial review, are asked to submit in order to complete their application.

Please direct questions about the temporary first-year application process without SAT or ACT test scores to honors@uidaho.edu.

As always, applicants first have to be admitted to the University of Idaho in order to be able to apply to the University Honors Program.

All other first-year applicants, please start with the online form here.

Initial admission decisions are based on a correlation between cumulative, unweighted GPA and an applicant’s highest ACT, SAT scores as well as four short essay compositions.
