Students have the opportunity to register for classes during the preceding semester. All students must meet with an academic advisor before registering for classes.
Honors students are typically eligible for priority registration.
For new students, registration commonly takes place during the UIdaho Bound event. (If you cannot attend UIdaho Bound, please contact your department to find out who your advisor is and discuss registration.)
We strongly encourage you to review the honors course list, review the general course catalog and schedule, and create a proposed course schedule prior to meeting with your advisor and registering for classes.
In order to maintain membership in the Honors Program, students must complete at least three HON-designated credits in their first semester and at least six HON-designated credits by the end of their second semester. (When meeting with your academic advisor, it is important to let them know that you will need to include one or more honors courses in your schedule.)
For most students, the first couple of semesters are dedicated to taking introductory level courses in their major and fulfilling the university’s general education requirements. Many honors courses fulfill these requirements.
In order to remain a full-time student, you must enroll in at least 12 credits. Most honors students find that between 15 and 18 credits, with three to nine credits of honors courses, is a reasonable course load. This varies depending on the student, their major and the classes taken.
Feel free to contact the Honors Program if you have any questions about registration.
Priority registration allows students to register the first day of class registration, regardless of class standing.
It is awarded to Honors students who maintain a 3.3 cumulative UI GPA and have completed prior to the current semester a minimum of:
- 3 HON-designated credits* in the first semester,
- 6 HON-designated credits by the end of the second semester,
- 9 HON-designated credits by the end of the fourth semester, and
- 12 HON-designated credits by the end of the sixth semester.
New UHP members who enroll for at least three HON-designated credits during their first semester in the program also qualify for priority registration.
Students do not receive a receive priority registration if they fail to meet the GPA or credit requirements.
