Scholarships & Awards
The University of Idaho offers more than $25 million in scholarship awards annually. Students are automatically considered once they apply for admission. These scholarships are awarded based on merit, financial need, outstanding achievement in specialized field, or any combination of these criteria.
In addition, the Department of English offers the following scholarships and awards administered through our department’s generous endowments to help you fund your education.
Earl & Ada David Scholarship
Financial Need: Not Required; this is a merit-based scholarship
Required Class Levels: FR, SO, JR, SR
Required Major(s): English
Required Minimum GPA: 3.0
Application: No application—English students are automatically considered.
Hogue Family Centennial Literary Scholarship
Financial Need: Not Required; this is a merit-based scholarship
Required Class Levels: FR, SO, JR, SR
Required Major(s): Any English or communication major
Other Requirements: Promising professional writer or journalist
Application: No application—English students are automatically considered.
Gayle Hungerford Memorial Scholarship
Financial Need: Not Required
Required Class Levels: Freshman
Required Major(s): English
Other Requirement: High school graduate from city of Moscow
Application: Notify the English Department or your English instructor of your eligibility of this scholarship.
Grace V. Nixon - English Scholarship
Financial Need: Not Required
Required Class Levels: FR, SO, JR, SR
Required Major(s): English
Other Requirements: Awarded to students who intend to teach English.
Application: No application - English students are automatically considered.
The Banks Award
Provides stipends to reward fine writing done by students in English classes. Faculty members submit the best work they receive, and once a year they look through these pieces and choose several to honor with a prize and publication in an anthology.
