Campus Resources

Sometimes you just gotta vent. It’s part of being human. If you feel like you're “losing it,” here are a few places at U of I where you can find help, or go and be safe.

Counseling and Mental Health Center

The Counseling and Mental Health Center is on the third floor of Forney Hall, on the south end of campus. If you feel like you can wait a bit to talk to someone, call 208-885-6716 and schedule an appointment. If waiting is NOT an option, just show up. If you don’t want to show up, or can’t leave where you are, call 208-885-6716 and speak to a crisis counselor.

Student Rec Center

When you know you don’t need professional help, but you do need to do something to manage your emotions, go to the Rec. Work out. Play. Climb. The Rec is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. most days. Exercise can help you sort through whatever might be bugging you.

The Women’s Center or the LGBTQA office

You may discover things in college that you never experienced in high school. You may make decisions about your future and identity that you didn’t feel safe to make when you were back home. Know that you will be accepted, supported and guided through these difficult issues at our Women’s Center and the LGBTQA Office. They can also help you sort through the tough emotions you may experience or in processing traumatic events.

Your advisors

Your resident assistant (RA) and academic advisor are your on-campus resources. They’re trained to help you through difficult times. If you have an issue, but it’s not an emergency and you just want to get a different perspective, talk to an advisor. Your RA can help you with roommate issues, living situations and general venting. Your academic advisor can help you with course issues, clear up any confusion or help you find the right path for your major or career goals.
