Materials not available in the law library collection may be requested from other institutions through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Law library ILL service is provided for University of Idaho law students, faculty, and staff members only. ILL requests given to the University of Idaho main library by College of Law faculty, staff, and students will be sent back to the law library for processing.
Students and faculty from other disciplines initiate ILL requests through the main library. Guest patrons must initiate ILL requests through their local public library.
The law library uses ILLiad to provide automated interlibrary loan services. From WorldCat Local simply click on the button that reads: "Request Item Through Interlibrary Loan."Otherwise, please go to the Law Library ILLiad site to make your request. You will need to set up an account in ILLiad (PDF) in order to use our services.
Be sure to complete the form with as much information as possible. A complete and accurate citation will do much to speed up the ILL process.

The law library does not charge for most book requests. If there is a charge associated with an item, you will be contacted about payment before the request is filled.
The borrower is responsible for any fines, replacement costs, or charges for damage levied by the lending institution. Failure to pay will result in loss of library privileges.
Materials requested from libraries in the region generally arrive within 2-3 days.
Provide a complete and accurate citation. If you are requesting an obscure item, write down as much information as possible, including which institutions may own the item. Note where you found your citation.
College of Law faculty and staff will receive materials through campus mail. Law students will be e-mailed when materials arrive. These materials can be picked up at the Law Library Circulation Desk.
The lending library determines the loan period, which averages three weeks. Some libraries allow one renewal, but renewals must be requested before the due date.
Renewals must be requested before the due date. If your material is overdue, you will be sent a notice via e-mail. You are responsible for providing a current e-mail address. Failure to receive overdue notices will not be grounds to cancel overdue administrative fees.
Interlibrary loan is a privilege and a finely developed reciprocal arrangement between libraries. The University of Idaho Law Library cannot jeopardize its borrowing relationships by failing to abide by the conditions imposed by the lending library.
Photocopies do not need to be returned. Return all other materials in person, with the ILL slip attached to the front of the book, to the Law Library Circulation Desk. How should I return the material?
