Academics
For more than a century, we have prepared state and national leaders in law, business and public service. Whether you want a legal career in private practice, judiciary, government, business, education or public interest, our academic programs will equip you for success anywhere in the country or the world.
We teach the way you learn: case studies of appellate court decisions, classroom discussion, advanced readings, trial practice, simulations, problem-solving exercises, experiential learning. You will be deeply engaged in your education – analyzing, reflecting, criticizing and creating from day one.
You will develop comprehensive legal expertise, high-level reasoning and critical thinking abilities, and sharp written and verbal communication skills. Our students also gain a profound understanding of the lawyer's ethical responsibilities as a representative of clients, an officer of the legal system, and a public citizen with a special responsibility for the quality of justice.
Learn the Law Firsthand
Ranked in the nation's top 35 law schools for public interest and clinical opportunities, our nine clinics and our rigorous Pro Bono Program give you valuable practical experiences representing real clients.
Under the guidance of practicing lawyers and faculty, our students serve as advocates and advisers on a range of legal issues – from taxes and small business law to victims' rights and immigration. Externships and the "Semester in Practice" program in Boise provide further opportunity to polish your lawyering skills alongside the professionals.
