    Advance your professional career with University of Idaho’s medical programs: online Master of Science (M.S.) in Gerontology, hybrid Doctor of Anatomical Sciences (D.A.S.), Master of Science and Doctor of Athletic Training (M.S.A.T. and D.A.T.), Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) and the Idaho WWAMI Medical Education Program.

    Integrated research approach

    The Vandal medical education team consists of interdisciplinary researchers and health professionals. This team studies everything from biomechanics in the Integrated Sports Medicine Movement Analysis Laboratory to breastmilk composition in the Immunology lab to dementia and memory disorders in the Neuro Epidemiology and Cognitive Aging lab.

    As a SHAMP student, you’ll gain real-world experience in these fields through U of I’s on-campus health care facilities and by working alongside faculty on research projects.

    Idaho Office of Underserved and Rural Medical Research (IOURMR)

    The Idaho Office of Underserved and Rural Medical Research (IOURMR) is dedicated to improving the health of Idaho’s underserved and rural communities through the purposeful integration of medical education, research and service to advance clinical practice and patient care in our state. IOURMR offices and programs include:  

    • Project ECHO (Extension for Community Health Outcomes) Idaho: Delivers virtual training to strengthen Idaho's health care and education workforce and improve patient outcomes.
    • North Idaho Area Health Education Center (NI-AHEC): Strengthens health care in rural and underserved communities by uniting education with local needs.
    • Office of Research and Evaluation: Conducts high-quality research and evaluation that generates actionable evidence to inform education and clinical practice.
    • Office of Continuing Education: Supports lifelong learning opportunities for the healthcare team.

    SHAMP’s mission and goals

    The School of Health and Medical Professions’ mission is to improve the health of the people of Idaho by developing a robust academic health care education delivery system that will launch a skilled workforce of health care professionals to address critical industry shortages. Together, we’ll work to:

    • Create an educational pathway in Idaho to train our citizens in health care professions. Vandal medical education will expand and strengthen health care services in Idaho.
    • Expand health care education at University of Idaho to address the critical workforce shortage.
    • Bring more quality physicians to Idaho’s rural areas.
    • Develop continuing education and professional development programs to train and retain existing health care professionals to ensure that even the most remote areas receive adequate medical and mental health services.
    • Meet the medical workforce needs of the future as the population continues to grow in Idaho and the nation.
    • Build a school based upon the highest quality, basic, applied and clinical research.
