Kibbie Dome Accessibility
The University of Idaho is committed to providing our guests with the best experience possible for all our events. Provided below is information that will help those with accessibility concerns navigate the Kibbie Dome during the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.
U of I – Parking and Transportation Services will attempt to accommodate all visitors displaying a legal Handicapped Parking Tag in specially designated parking areas. However, due to space limitations, these spaces will be available on a first come, first to be served basis. If you have special needs requests, please contact Parking and Transportation Services at 208-885-6424.
U of I – Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) will provide a drop off area as close to the doors as possible. The PTS Attendant will do their best to assist you. After dropping your relative or student off, you will need to return and park your car or bus in the designated parking lot located on the west side of the facility. Schools will not be allowed to drop off their entire bus of students at these entrance points.
The Kibbie Dome will have a number of U of I staff members on hand to assist with seating needs. Staff with be located at the South Concourse entrances wearing distinctive uniforms. A limited number of wheelchairs are available to assist with guests reaching seating areas. However, due to the limited number, we are unable to provide wheelchairs for the duration of the service. If your mobility needs require the extended use of a wheelchair, please plan on bringing your own.
Platforms are set aside for wheelchairs and their attendants located above sections #3 and #9. Access to these areas is carried out via the Southwest (SW) Concourse entrance for Section #3 and #9. The platforms will be restricted to individuals in a wheelchair and their attendant.
Clear Bag Policy
In 2020, the University of Idaho implemented a Clear Bag Policy for all events held in the Kibbie Dome. While policies like this may be inconvenient, your safety and security is our #1 priority while in our facility. Efforts are continuously being made to minimize the inconvenience a policy such as this may have on our patrons. With that in mind, we understand that the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival (LHJF) is a unique event requiring exceptions to portions of the policy. As a result, we have made adjustments and provided opportunities for registered attendees of the LHJF to enjoy expedited security screening when entering the Kibbie Dome. These opportunities will vary depending on what event you are attending in the Kibbie Dome, so please read the below information carefully so you are well prepared. For quick reference, please refer to our Safety Regulations PDF.
As a convenience, we are providing all registered schools with free clear bags for their attending groups. We hope that providing these bags help in complying with the clear bag policy. We are excited to welcome you to the University of Idaho and in particular, the beautiful Kibbie Dome!
Expedited “pre check” lines will be provided for all attendees wearing their participant credentials. Signs will be present identifying these “pre check” lines at each entrance. These lines will allow you to enter the facility with your instrument(s) and bags associated with carrying those instruments without screening. Security reserves the right to search these bags at any time. All other bags carrying personal items not associated with your instruments will still be required to be held inside an authorized clear bag. Prohibited items will still be enforced. For a description of authorized clear bags and a list of prohibited items, please see the university's Clear Bag Policy.
Full enforcement of the clear bag policy will be implemented. No pre-check lines will be available. While instrument cases will be permitted, they will be searched. If you have not qualified to perform on the main stage in the evening concert, we strongly encourage you not to bring instruments into the venue with you. Doing so will significantly slow entrance into the facility. In addition, enforcement of all prohibited items will occur. Please remind your students that all outside food and drink will be confiscated upon entry.
Online Registration for the 2022 festival is open through Friday, Dec. 17, 2021.
We understand that sometimes cutting a check takes time, and we want to work with you! Registration fees are based off of your registration DATE, not dependent upon when your payment is received.
Students will have a designated case room to store personal items during their performance time. However, we are unable to provide all-day storage. We encourage students to store belongings on the buses when at all possible.
Performance time for all ensembles, combos and soloists starts the moment they step onto the stage. Please allow a few moments for microphone adjustments as necessary.
Immediately check-in with the greeter at your site. From there, volunteers will direct you where you need to go.
The LHJF provides cymbals for use at every performance site as specified in the rules and regulations. All groups are required to use these cymbals. However, you may supplement if you require special effects type cymbals. Also, if the setup needs to be changed due to physical issues, such as a left-handed drummer, please note this on the performance forms provided at your site check-in. If your student needs to alter the setup, it is your responsibility to return the equipment to the original setup.
Due to tight schedules and a limited number of rooms, the only rehearsal time provided is your allotted warm-up time. Please do not arrive at your site early and expect to have a rehearsal space.
Video and non-flash photography are allowed in all student performance sites. Non-flash photography is allowed in some clinics. Videotaping or audio taping of clinics is absolutely prohibited. Additionally, all video recorders, audio recorders and cameras are prohibited at all events in the Kibbie Dome.
The Idaho Student Union Building (formerly the Idaho Commons) in the center of campus has a food court with a variety of food options and seating for groups. Also, there is a large dormitory cafeteria in the Wallace Complex on Sixth Street.
