Operation Resubmission Success
The University of Idaho Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED) is offering this internal funding program to support U of I faculty members looking to resubmit competitive federal grant proposals that received favorable reviews but were not funded. Approximately $200,000 is available for FY23.
Operation: Resubmission Support funding will be used to address specific actionable issues raised during the review of a grant proposal by a federal sponsor to enhance the competitiveness of a resubmission. Some examples of these expenses are listed here:
- Means to acquire preliminary data, including support for students or postdoctoral scholars, supplies, etc.
- Travel to a laboratory to use their instrumentation.
Please note that faculty salary support is not allowed by this program.
Rolling Deadline for FY23
For FY23, this program will run on a rolling deadline basis, with each application being reviewed by members of ORED as it is received. Competitive applications are those that received overall favorable reviews (i.e., no fatal flaws identified), but that were lacking in a particular aspect of the proposal. ORED has earmarked a total of $200,000 to fund these activities and will disburse them according to priorities defined below. Once funds have been expended, this program will close for the remainder of the fiscal year.
Applications will be submitted through the InfoReady System and must include submission of the following components that will be evaluated during the review process:
- Reviews from the sponsor
- Documentation of your correspondence with the Program Officer about the resubmission
- Your response to the reviews, including how you plan to address the weakness(es)
- Budget and budget justification for the requested funding to address the weakness(es)
- Relevant biographical sketch of the PI
- Timeline for resubmission
Preference will be given to proposals requesting PhD student and/or postdoctoral scholar support and those charging the full F&A rate. Finally, the anticipated return on ORED investment will also be considered, with a higher Return on Investment (ROI) being preferred.
It is expected that awardees will work with the Research and Faculty Development (RFD) team to develop the resubmission proposal. Please note that the RFD team can assist with strategizing for proposal resubmission for proposals that are not eligible to receive support from this funding program (see Level 3 of the Faculty Request for Proposal Development Assistance service page).
