Wine & Cheese Tasting Event Recieves First Place Award

Friday, July 22 2011

The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Wine & Cheese Tasting Event won 1st place at the 2011 National Agricultural Alumni and Development Association Publications and Projects Competition under the Event/Programs Division this June.

The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) Ambassadors and the University of Idaho Dairy Club host the Annual Wine and Cheese Tasting Event as a fundraiser.

The funds generated from this fundraiser go towards scholarships, travel and professional attire for the two groups. With today’s economic and budget situations these two groups decided to host an event that would be both entertaining and profitable. The idea was generated in 2009, and has been a great success since then. To generate the funds for the event the students are asked to bring in donation items and sell tickets. The items donated are used in several auction style games run throughout the evening, while other donations include the food and drink.

Having this event as a part of the University’s Mom’s Weekend allows us the opportunity to work closely with other student groups at the University of Idaho in planning the annual weekend. This event is very unique and provides a fun opportunity for moms and their student. In addition it provides an experiential learning opportunity for the students to plan and carry out an event – including teamwork, communication, time management, and networking.

The 4th Annual Wine and Cheese is scheduled for April 20, 2012.
