Vandals Celebrate Idaho’s Influence Planetwide During Homecoming 2013

Friday, September 13 2013

MOSCOW, Idaho — The University of Idaho will celebrate the global spirit of Vandal Pride Planetwide during Homecoming 2013 Sept. 22-29.

“We love welcoming our alumni back to campus to celebrate Homecoming with our current students,” said Tim Helmke, associate director of Alumni Relations. “Many of our 95,000 alumni are making significant impacts where they live and work across the world. We are thrilled to include them in our Homecoming celebration and honored to recognize how widespread the Vandal family is.”

The Vandal community welcomes returning alumni parents, fans and local residents with several events throughout the week in Moscow, which will provide opportunities to engage with the University of Idaho.

“Homecoming is always a fun time of the academic year,” said Helmke. “It’s a time for celebration and fun, amidst the academics. This is the time to cement traditions and make memories.”

Vandal traditions continue this year, including the annual community-wide food drive throughout the week; the Serpentine march through campus which begins at new Greek row on Friday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. and ends at the bonfire rally at the ASUI-Kibbie Activity Center at 8:30 p.m.; the Homecoming parade Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. on Main Street in downtown Moscow; and the Vandal Homecoming football game against Temple University at 2 p.m. in the Kibbie Dome.

Rich and Sharon Allen and Jeff and Kris Stoddard will lead the Homecoming parade as Grand Marshals. These distinguished alumni are making a significant difference worldwide and serve on the Inspiring Futures national capital campaign committee for the university as co-chairs.

The Allen’s graduated from Idaho in 1973 and were active on campus: Sharon in Kappa Kappa Gamma and Rich in Sigma Alpha Epsilon. They both remain active and connected with their alma mater. Sharon retired in 2012 as Chairwoman of Deloitte & Touche. Rich was a principal with the Gellart Corporation before selling the company to focus on managing finances and investments.

The Stoddards met at the university during their freshman year – Jeff went on to graduate in 1975 and 1976, while Kris received her degree from the University of Utah. Jeff is currently a partner in the Stoddard Family Partnership – the company played an integral role in the development of the Laguna Niguel community. Kris remains an avid Idaho supporter and Vandal fan.
