Student Email Upgrade Dec. 19

ITS currently partners with Microsoft to provide University of Idaho student email through a program called “Live@edu.” Microsoft is making a number of changes to their products and we are now required to upgrade from Live@edu to “Office 365.” As a group which provides assistance to students, we wanted to make sure you were aware of the impact this will have, as well as knowing who to contact if you have any questions.

Student Impact:

. Students are *required* to change their password through the web page after the upgrade on Dec. 19. The password changing web page will be available for a number of weeks after the upgrade date to ensure all students are able to successfully go through the reset process.
. Special Note: Passwords for Microsoft services SkyDrive and Messenger available to students will remain the same. The reason for this is Microsoft is moving the email service to Office 365 but leaving behind other consumer products associated with a “Microsoft Account” previously known as a “Microsoft Live Account.”
. All other functionality will remain exactly the same. All email, contacts, calendars and server names will remain the same with these noted exceptions:
. Email quotas will be increased from the current 10GB to 25GB per-user.
. Email forwarding from to any other address will be allowed.

We do expect confusion with the difference between an Office 365 account and a Microsoft account (SkyDrive and Messenger) but the use of these services is limited.

We have been communicating with students by email, and through the web page, since October 18th. The message below is an example of the communication and was sent out on November 29th. We will be contacting students once more before the December 19th change. On the 19, the new web page will be in place to allow password resets.

Office 365 Upgrade Notice

On Wednesday, Dec. 19, VandalMail will be upgraded from Live@edu to "Office 365." There will be no change in functionality but your account password will need to be reset.

What will change during this transition?
. Your email quota will be increased from the current 10GB limit to 25GB.
. You will be able to forward your email from to any other email service.
. You will be required to reset your password through the "Live@edu to Office 365 Upgrade" web site.
How do I prepare?
Please make sure you are using the web address "" to access your email. We will be providing more information about the transition during the logon process.

What steps will I need to take after the switch?
On Dec. 19 you will see these logon options.

When you select the password reset you will be directed to the "Live@edu to Office 365 Upgrade" web page. To complete the reset go through these 3 steps.
. Step 1 - Logon with your old @vandals account password
. Step 2 - Enter your new permanent password twice
. Step 3 - Click the button to "Go to your Office 365 email"

Why will my password be reset?
As we move to Office 365, the integration for your account with Microsoft Live Services will be discontinued. This means other services, like Skydrive and Messenger, will have a separate password from Office 365. Your username for both Live and Office 365 will remain the same. (e.g.
