Nick Sanyal, associate professor of conservation social sciences and bioregional planning, conducted a workshop entitled, “Moving from Conflict to Consensus in Small Groups: Building Bridges to Better Decision-making” at the 2010 Northwest Community Development Institute, in Boise, July 14. The institute is an annual four-day opportunity to help people become certified as professional community and economic development specialists. Attendees were working professionals from Idaho, Washington, Montana and Oregon who are involved in planning and community development, at city, county and state levels. Sanyal's workshop helped participants orchestrate increased community effectiveness and address complex community issues while avoiding common the pitfalls of polarization, alienation and indecision.
