Natural Resources Remote Sensing Specialist Receives Cutting-Edge Training

Wednesday, October 12 2011

Linda Tedrow, a remote sensing specialist in the Reveley Geospatial Learning Center in the College of Natural Resources, attended the Immersive Visualization Applications summer course offered by the Center for Advanced Energy Studies at the Idaho National Laboratory. Immersive visualization is an emerging 3-D technology. Tedrow enrolled in the immersive visualization course to learn how to visualize large complex data sets, such as LiDAR, with the 3-D technology that resides in the University of Idaho Library. Part of the curriculum included learning how to process LiDAR data for 3-D visualization. Tedrow brought along a LiDAR data set of Moscow Mountain and was able to format this data for the Immersive Visualization environment. This 3-D data is now available at the University of Idaho Library. Tedrow will be presenting this technology at the National Science Foundation EPSCoR Conference later this month.
