Sandpoint Organic Agriculture Center - Summer 2019 Internship

This internship offers the unique opportunity to spend a summer at the University’s first research and experiment station devoted to sustainable and organic agriculture. Interns will work closely with the orchard manager to produce a safe, healthy, and organic crop of tree fruits and berries for market. Interns will receive realistic and practical hands-on experience while working in the agricultural setting of the organic heirloom orchard and working in the horticultural setting of the SOAC grounds. Tasks in the orchard range from hand weeding and fruit thinning to pest monitoring and soil sampling. Tasks around the SOAC grounds include mowing, landscape pruning, planting, and weeding. Housing: Interns are invited to stay on-site at SOAC free of charge. Interns would be staying in the SOAC Cottage which has double bedrooms, multiple bathrooms, kitchenette, washer and dryer, andWi-Fi.

Compensation: Along with free housing, interns will be paid an hourly rate. Hours range from 30–40 hours per week.

Requirements: University of Idaho CALS Student - Strong interest in organic agriculture and/or orchard management - Ability to complete physically demanding tasks - Ability to work in all weather conditions – Ability to work alone or in a small group
