Join the NSF CAREER Proposal Conversation Group

March 02, 2021

The Research and Faculty Development team has announced a U of I National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Proposal Conversation Group for individuals applying — or planning to apply — for an NSF CAREER award. The first conversation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, via Zoom. The informal conversations allow participants to ask questions and brainstorm ideas, issues and solutions with peers and the team, and access proposal development resources and guides.

Six one-hour Zoom conversations will be facilitated by Research and Faculty Development. Each conversation will begin with one of the topics below, followed by 40 minutes of open discussion and questions.

Topics include:

  • getting started: tasks/timeline; contacting your PO; department head letter;
  • education plan: integration of education and research broader impacts;
  • the overview: examining effectiveness of the first sentence/page;
  • writing the summary; and
  • polishing your proposal.

Conversations will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. on the following Wednesdays: March 31, May 5, May 19, June 9, June 23 and July 7, via Zoom. The NSF CAREER deadline for 2021 is Monday, July 26.
