Undergraduate Research Opportunities in Idaho Falls
December 08, 2021
Applications are being accepted through Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, for undergraduate research experiences May 23 through July 29, 2022, at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies in Idaho Falls. Students accepted to the program will work alongside faculty from Idaho’s universities and scientists from the Idaho National Laboratory to contribute to “Advanced Manufacturing for a Sustainable Energy Future.”
The Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) aims to establish a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Site in Idaho Falls focused on Advanced Manufacturing for a Sustainable Energy Future.
The program is thanks to a recent grant to establish a REU Site at CAES. In this 10-week program, 10 undergraduate students from Idaho’s two- and four-year institutions and universities from across the nation will work alongside faculty from U of I, Boise State University and Idaho State University and scientists from the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) at CAES headquarters near the INL Research Campus.
Students will work on selected research projects related to advanced manufacturing which will leverage new capabilities in the CAES facility, including a state-of-the-art transmission electron microscope and a suite of instruments for advanced manufacturing of sensors and instrumentation for extreme environments.
During the summer experience, students will network with and learn from INL scientists, have opportunities to share their work with an active research community and co-author publications and presentations based on their research findings. Learn more about the program and apply.
