Engage in Accreditation Process Thursday

October 18, 2019

Sonny Ramaswamy, president of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), will host an open forum beginning at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in the ISUB Horizon Room. The meeting will provide an opportunity for the university community to learn more about NWCCU and the new accreditation standards. This meeting will also be available via Zoom, meeting ID No. 437162516. The session will be recorded for viewing later and posted on the university's accreditation website. There will be time for discussion and a question and answer period following the presentation.

For those who ask why they should care about accreditation, the answer is short: Successfully achieving accreditation is perhaps the most important thing we do. A degree from an accredited school is valuable. One from an unaccredited school is not. All federal funding (both scholarship and research) goes to accredited schools only.

Being accredited means the university has gone through a rigorous evaluation, has met the required accreditation standards and is qualified to teach students the programs being offered. Being accredited gives students access to financial aid, supports quality research and assures students that their University of Idaho degree is legitimate and will be recognized by employers, institutions and others. It also ensures the credits students receive are transferable to another school.
