Welcome to New Faculty Secretary Francesca Sammarruca

June 07, 2019

Congratulations to Francesca Sammarruca, who will join the University of Idaho as the secretary of the university faculty, effective July 1. Sammarruca started her tenure-track career at U of I as an assistant professor in the Department of Physics in 1997 and rose through the department until she became a professor in 2007. She has a doctorate in physics from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the equivalent of a master's in physics from the University of Pavia, Italy.

Throughout her career, Sammarruca has researched theoretical nuclear physics, the structure of the atomic nucleus, nuclear reactions, nuclear many-body theory and nuclear astrophysics. Currently, she is working on theoretical and computational models aimed at improving our understanding of the nuclear physics aspects of neutron stars and supernovae.

Sammarruca has a strong record of service and committee leadership at U of I. She has served on more than a dozen committees across campus and has chaired a number of panels including the university's Faculty Appeals Hearing Board, the College of Science Promotion and Tenure Committee, the Physics Department Academic Standards Committee and the College of Science Diversity Committee.
