The Faculty Senate meets weekly on Tuesdays during the academic year to discuss and act on policy matters pertaining to the immediate government of the university.

Faculty Senate Talking Points: Feb. 5, 2019

  • President Staben answered questions regarding the recent events involving administrative leave and the use of the VandalAlert system. A detailed record of the conversation will be available in the Faculty Senate minutes. Draft minutes will be posted late this week on the senate web site under the “agenda” link for Senate Meeting #19 on February 12. 
  • University Ombuds, Laura Smythe, is available to meet with people who would like to process their grief either as individuals or in a facilitated group discussion. She is also available to provide conflict management training for those who are interested. or 209-885-7668.
  • A taskforce is being formed to re-evaluate the U of I’s General Education Curriculum. In the meantime, next year the ISEM seminars will continue to be part of the General Education Curriculum. Any person interested in serving should email the Faculty Secretary,, or Director of General Education Dean Panttaja,

  • April 16 — Last Senate meeting to approve FSH policies for inclusion on the spring UFM Agenda
  • May 1 — University Faculty Meeting (location information tba)
