Donate to the Vandal Food Pantry as Payment for Library Fines April 29 to May 10

April 25, 2019

The U of I Library will accept food donations as payment for overdue book fines as part of the Food for Fines program. Drop off food donations at the Information Desk on the first floor of the library April 29 through May 10.

The donations will benefit the Vandal Food Pantry where students in need can get food with no questions and complete anonymity.

  • 1 item = $1 in fine forgiveness
  • Only active overdue fines are eligible for forgiveness; this does not apply to lost fees
  • Items must be non-perishable (shelf-stable) and cannot be dented or expired

While donations of any shelf-stable foods will be accepted, the following items are particularly appreciated:

  • Peanut butter
  • Jelly
  • Noodles or ramen
  • Granola/protein bars
  • Cereal or instant oatmeal
  • Canned soups or stews
  • Canned tuna or chicken
  • Macaroni and cheese

The ASUI Center for Volunteerism and Social Action provides the Vandal Food Pantry which helps students focus on their studies without the burden of food insecurity. Nonperishable food cabinets are available across campus. Cabinets are stocked with food, grocery bags and information on other food resources. The food pantry in the library is by the entrance to the map room on the first floor. Find other Vandal Food Pantry locations.

The pantries are open to all, take what you need.
