The Faculty Senate meets weekly on Tuesdays during the academic year to discuss and act on policy matters pertaining to the immediate government of the university.

Faculty Senate Talking Points: April 16, 2019

  • The search for a new faculty secretary is underway. The search committee is chaired by Professor and Vice Chair of Faculty Senate Terry Grieb. The position announcement is available online. Faculty interested in applying are encouraged to contact Grieb, or current Faculty Secretary, Liz Brandt,
  • The Faculty Affairs Committee is continuing to consider comments to the draft of FSH 1565 regarding Faculty Ranks and Responsibilities (see links in April 2 Faculty Senate Meeting). Comments can be forwarded to senators, Faculty Affairs Committee members, Dan Eveleth, Chair of the QTT,, Liz Brandt, The goal is to incorporate feedback and comments by the end of this semester, circulate the proposal to deans and unit administrators over the summer, and bring it back to senate next fall semester.

  • Senate approved the following policy changes:

    • FSH 1640.28 — Committee on Committees: revision to the structure resulting from changes in the Faculty Secretary position.

    • FSH 1640.12 — Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee: revision to the structure to better align with UI’s regulatory responsibilities.

    • FSH 4700 – Responsibilities of Instructors: addition of accreditation requirement regarding syllabi (previously part of the position description policy).

  • April 3-30 — Library Journal and Database Review Faculty Feedback
  • April 18 — COGS 2019 Innovation Showcase, Idaho Commons.
  • April 29 — U of I Undergraduate Research Symposium, Pitman Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. PDT.
  • May 1 — University Faculty Meeting, 3 p.m. PDT. Moscow — Vandal Ballroom; Boise - IWC 248A; Coeur d'Alene - HC 145C; Idaho Falls - TAB 350; Twin Falls - B-66 (location information tba): A quorum will be required at this meeting to pass changes to the Faculty Constitution and Faculty Senate Bylaws related to the faculty secretary re-structure — please plan to attend!

  • May 2 — Spring Commencement – Idaho Falls
  • May 6 — Spring Commencement — Coeur d’Alene
  • May 11 — Spring Commencement — Moscow
  • May 14 — Spring Commencement — Boise
