TheFaculty Senate meets weekly on Tuesdays during the academic year to discuss and act on policy matters pertaining to the immediate government of the university.

Faculty Senate Talking Points: Nov. 13, 2018

  • Jazz Festival. Prof. Vanessa Sielert, Director of the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, updated senate on plans for the festival and on volunteer opportunities for faculty, staff and students. Faculty are encouraged to present workshops connecting their discipline and jazz. Colleges and units are encouraged to hold mini Envision Idaho events for student participants in the festival.   • University Curriculum Committee Report (UCC).Senate approved the 2019-20 Final Exam Schedule and four revisions to the University Catalog:
    • Regulation J-5 regarding limits on credits for experiential learning;
    • Regulation C-3 prohibiting withdrawal from a course after the final grade is assigned;
    • Regulation H-3 providing a process for rescheduling an exam when a student has more than two exams on a single day (this provision was revised at the senate meeting);
    • Regulation L-7 expanding U of I’s Fresh Start provision
  • Plus/Minus Grading. Prof. Stephan Flores reviewed the report of the Teaching and Advising Committee recommending that U of I adopt a system of plus/minus grading. The report has been referred to UCC and will then go to Graduate Council for further action.
