The goal is to identify existing concentrations of faculty expertise in this area and use this information to facilitate new collaborations, highlight areas of potential strategic investment and form working groups around emerging funding opportunities and applications. Dawn Sweet, assistant professor in Communication and Psychology in the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences, recently published a paper about the relationship among mindfulness, rumination, depression, stress, anxiety, communication apprehension and willingness to communicate among veterinary medicine students. Students and practitioners of veterinary medicine experience higher rates of suicide and depression than other professions. Read more

St. Lukes Creates Scholarship Endowment to Aid Idaho WWAMI Students Eyeing Medical Careers in Underserved, Rural Areas

This story by Daniel Mediate was published by St. Luke’s online. Growing up in Coeur d’Alene, Dan Cooper decided he wanted to be a medical doctor while attending Lake City High School. He set a goal to accumulate a resume full of lived experiences beforehand. After completing the pre-med curriculum and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, Cooper lived in Mexico for two years, serving as a medical assistant at a rural orphanage. With a Dancing Robot and Autonomous Submarine, U of I’s Robotics Program is Settling into Its New Space

This story by Greg Mason was published in The Spokesman-Review on Sept. 7, 2021. The first law of robotics, according to science fiction, is that robots may never harm a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. The first “rule” of robotics in John Shovic’s classes at the University of Idaho, meanwhile, is much less ominous. “Robots are dumb,” said Shovic, a professor in robotics and artificial intelligence. Carl Hunt

This obituary appeared in The Lewiston Tribune on Sept. 8. Carl Hunt, 68, of Moscow, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, because of heart failure arising from cancer treatment complications. He was a deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, Christian, educator and community member. Carl was raised on a farm in southwest Iowa, just outside the town of Atlantic. He told wonderful stories about his childhood on the farm and the Christ-centered, loving family that surrounded him. Read more

Doyle Anderegg

Doyle Anderegg, Ph.D., died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, at the age of 91 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Jeanne Anderegg, and survived by his children, Alice Sutton and Carolyn Rowland. Doyle and Jeanne were longtime residents of Moscow, from 1967 until 2002.
