Arboretum Associates
The Arboretum Associates is the volunteer, fundraising group supporting the Arboretum. Donors to the Arboretum become members of the Associates and receive the newsletter ArborNotes. The Associates are governed by a Board, consisting of four officers and four members-at-large. The Associates hold an annual general membership meeting, usually in April. The meeting takes care of the business of electing officers, along with hearing reports from the Treasurer and a report on the Arboretum. The Associates also sponsor an annual plant sale in the spring, an acoustic concert featuring community members and students from the Lionel Hampton School of Music in July and publish ArborNotes, the newsletter for the Arboretum. Donor funds are used to add to the Arboretum’s plant collection as well as to help fund new structures including the pergola and the information shelter at the south end. Funds have also been used to supplement University maintenance funds to purchase equipment like mowers and utility vehicles and especially to convert the irrigation system to automated, underground sprinklers. The Arboretum Associates also fund Science Saturdays, educational programs using the Arboretum resources to target school age children on Saturdays during the summer months.
