LGBTQ Emergency Scholarship Fund
The UI LGBTQA Office has established a fund intended to help support current University of Idaho LGBTQ students who have lost or are facing the loss of financial support from their parents/family when they make the courageous decision to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity to their families. These students find themselves in dire need of funds and support in order to reach their educational goals. The emergency scholarship helps ensure that students need not choose between their education at UI and living life openly and honestly.
The award will vary based on student need and fund balance. The maximum amount a student can receive in an academic year is $1,500. Student eligibility for this emergency aid will be limited to a maximum distribution over two semesters. Second-semester renewal is contingent upon good academic standing.
This scholarship is open to undergraduate LGBTQ students currently attending the University of Idaho.
This scholarship is intended as a last resort for currently enrolled LGBTQ full and part-time undergraduate students. Students who have been on hiatus for one semester due to financial hardship may also be considered, but currently enrolled students will receive preference. Scholarships will be awarded to students based principally upon financial need. Career goals, community service, extracurricular activities, and involvement in activities promoting diversity and raising awareness of LGBT and related issues may also be considered.
Before applying for this scholarship, students should contact Student Financial Aid Services to determine what other financial aid options are available.
After contacting financial aid, students should contact the staff in the LGBTQA Office to discuss their individual situations. The LGBTQA Office Program Coordinator will answer questions the application process. Selection is determined by a committee comprised of no fewer than three staff/faculty from across campus.
Emergency Scholarship applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Applications are currently available and being accepted at this time.
